Getting Started

From Anymaker Community Wiki

In survival, the player spawns at the docks with a small, partially assembled ATV. Points of Interest in this region are spread out, meaning the player's first goal is to find the parts needed to get the ATV operational.

Interface

The inventory UI.

With the default key-binds, Tab can be used to open the character's inventory. As of v0.0.9, you start with two Battery Cells, a Torch and the Game Manual in the Backpack.

At the top of the screen, are the character's attire slots, including a slot for held items. To the right of this, are meters showing the character's current health, hunger, and thirst along with other information.

Inventory Management

The inventory system in Anymaker is based off of each inventory being a grid of slots, where every item has a specific width and height. Items can be moved around in the inventory by dragging, and rotated with the R key. Hovering over an item and pressing Backspace will drop the item into the world.

Items can be equipped into the hotbar by dragging them onto one of the ten hotbar slots. Unlike some other games, the hotbar isn't an inventory itself, but serves as a quick access to items in the inventory. The Held Item slot at the top (or the leftmost slot when outside of the inventory menu) can be used to carry an item that's too large to fit in your backpack, but the item in this slot is dropped whenever the character changes to a different item.

Items or objects in the world that have an inventory can be opened with Tab, and their contents will appear in the right Inspected Inventory panel. The bottom left control tip will change from Open Inventory to Inspect Inventory if the player is looking at an item with an inventory.

Player's view in First Person.

While in the world, the player can scroll to change which hotbar slot is selected (including the held-item slot). In the bottom left, a control tip UI can be seen that hints the player to what interactions they can do at the moment. The top of the screen shows the player's most critical need, which is the player's currently lowest stat, which in the reference image is Hunger.

Walking around in the world can be done with WASD. The player can sprint holding Shift while moving, and the player can crouch using Ctrl. If the character runs into an low object, the character will lean over the object, sometimes falling over. The player can recover from falling over by crouching.

Scavenging

The Starting ATV

To get started in survival, the player needs to find resources to fix the starting ATV. To pick up items from the world the player can either tap F, which will take it into the inventory, or hold F, which will take it into the inventory and equip it into the hotbar, or pick it up into the Held Item slot, depending on the size of the item.

After finding a Quadbike Wheel, the player can take them to the ATV, and connect them to the suspension by hovering over the suspension with the wheel, and holding F to attach it.

While searching for wheels and a battery, the player should also be mindful of finding food, water, tools, and a weapon to defend themselves.
